MARBELLA:
With its privileged location sheltered by the Concha mountain, one of the
town’s symbols, Marbella has become a
point of reference for
international tourism without having lost either its typical Andalusian
flavour or its historical essence. Sea and mountain, tradition and modernity
come together in this Mediterranean town to offer the visitor a
multicultural and cosmopolitan ambience open to progress and based on
coexistence and the warm character of the local people.
The town of Marbella is one of the most well-known anywhere in the world.
Always bathed in light, the town bases its activity on global tourism and an
outstanding range of things to do: 26 kilometres of beach, mountains, 16 golf
courses, luxury hotels, a gloriously natural setting, 4 marinas – among
which is the internationally famous Puerto Banús- shopping centres and
an exciting night life.
PUERTO BANUS:
Puerto Banus, situated just 6 kms. from
Marbella, is regarded as one of the most well-known marinas on the
Spanish or European coast, and owes its name to its developer, Don
José Banús. Officially inaugurated in 1968 and home
to 915 moorings for some of the most luxurious vessels in the world,
its celebrated marina and magnificent selection of bars, restaurants
and globally-renowned shops have made it a place filled with glamour
and charm for all its visitors.
It is no surprise that Marbella has emerged as a point of reference
for
elite tourism: since beginning life as a tourist
enclave in the mid-sixties, actors, artists and personalities from
all walks of life have passed through, underlining its elegant and
sophisticated character as a party and social events town
SERVICES:
Marbella also stands out within the hotel industry for its high
concentration of five-star hotels and establishments
dedicated to gastronomy, with a number close to 800, including all the
cuisines of the world without exception.
In addition, Marbella today is host to Spain’s most
important commercial offer: a wide range of international
firms and shops, with trademark names, as well as shopping centres
of great renown, have made this town a distinctive Paradise as well
as a pleasure to shop in.
GOLF IN MARBELLA:
Undoubtedly one of Marbella’s main attractions is having the
largest number of golf courses in Spain spread over its 26
kilometres of coastline. Among them are internationally-famous courses,
including “Las Brisas” where important championships
such as the World Cup of Golf have been held.

TRADITION AND FESTIVITIES:
Marbella is also noted for its culture and history, such as the
magnificent Casco Antiguo, or Old Town, with its narrow white
lanes and floral balconies, where the Plaza de los Naranjos and 16th century
town hall are located; the Ermita de Santiago, the first Christian church in
the town, built in the 15th century, and the Casa del Corregidor, dating back
to the 16th century.
Very close by is the Iglesia de la Encarnación, work on which began in
the 17th century. You can also visit the remains of the town walls which surrounded
the Muslim town and those of the Castillo Árabe.
One of the most notable events in the town is the religious
Holy Week
festivities held in March-April, during which the people of Marbella
take part in a procession around the Old Town and Centre, carrying their
religious figures.
Another hugely popular event is the
Marbella Fair. The
Celebrations for the Patron Saint of Marbella take place on June 11th, San
Bernabé’s Day, which lead to a host of activities and performances
throughout the week.
